The old peace orthodoxy and its challengers

These are several challenges and paradoxes faced by ever growing activists for peace and justice in Palestine that are hard to reconcile.

1. The gap between the dramatic change in world public opinion on the issue of Palestine on the one hand, and the continued support from the political and economic elites in the West for the Jewish state on the other (and hence the lack of any impact of that change on the reality on the ground)

2. Widely held negative image of Israel on the one hand, and the very positive image its own Jewish society has on the state.

3. While specific Israeli policies are severely criticized and condemned, the very nature of the Israeli regime and the ideology that produces these policies are not targeted by the solidarity movement.

4. Tale of Palestine from the beginning until today is a simple story of colonialism and disposession, yet the world treats it as a multifaceted and complex story- hard to understand and even harder to solve.

Chapter 1: Kagutaba Village Once there was an old woman, Ishii Junko living with her 6 years-old son,named Koga.They lived at the end of a village called Kagutaba Village. She used to be a friendly and nice neighbour before everything changed after her husband had died from a mysterious disease that had flew throughout the country many years ago.It had caused her to suffered a brain damage. Eventually Ishii had became insane and always talk by herself even when no one was around,as some of the villagers asserted. The woman and her son then moved further away from the village near the forest,where a friend of her had build a small cottage for her family to live. The disease soon struck Kagutaba Village that was specially affected disastrously,causing some 200,half of its population had died from the illness.Soon,exodus occurred. Intifada al-Aqsa: Peristiwa, sebab dan kesan

Perkataan al-Aqsa, juga dikenali sebagai Baitul Muqaddas adalah merupakan tempat ibadah ke-3 paling mulia dalam Islam. Judaisme merujuknya sebagai Temple Mountain, tapak paling mulia dalam agama Yahudi dan didakwa pernah dibina atasnya Haikal Sulaiman. Intifada al-Aqsa merujuk kepada kebangkitan rakyat Palestin menentang Israel. Lawatan provokasi Ariel Sharon ke Haram As-Syarif pada 28 September 2000 adalah merupakan pencetus yang mengakibatkan kemarahan dan kebangkitan rakyat Palestin. Kebangkitan ini dinamakan Intifada al-Aqsa atau Intifada ke-2. Ianya berlaku 2 bulan selepas gagalnya Proses Oslo. Intifada al-Aqsa berlangsung tidak hanya semata-mata kerana tindakan Ariel Sharon, tetapi juga adalah hasil siri peristiwa selama berpuluh tahun dan multifaktorial yang membawa kepada kebangkitan ini. The perks of doing elective posting.

Before every summer break, elective posting or attachment in hospitals are one of the common topics being discussed among medical students especially for those in clinical years. There will be many things lingering in our mind when we talk about it. How to apply? Is it tough? What should I equip myself with? Can I cope? There are fears, and there are expectations. But like what Naik always said, just do it! Who can apply? Any medical students who are: 1. Studying in institutions listed on Jadual Kedua Akta Perubatan 1971 . Refer Page 43-60, 2. Local IPTA or IPTS, 3. Still studying. Postgraduates cannot apply except registered under overseas Majlis Perubatan, applying under seksyen 6 Akta Perubatan 1971 .  You guys are encouraged to apply to do elective posting in government hospital, be it clinical or preclinical students.
