The old peace orthodoxy and its challengers
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم These are several challenges and paradoxes faced by ever growing activists for peace and justice in Palestine that are hard to reconcile. 1. The gap between the dramatic change in world public opinion on the issue of Palestine on the one hand, and the continued support from the political and economic elites in the West for the Jewish state on the other (and hence the lack of any impact of that change on the reality on the ground) 2. Widely held negative image of Israel on the one hand, and the very positive image its own Jewish society has on the state. 3. While specific Israeli policies are severely criticized and condemned, the very nature of the Israeli regime and the ideology that produces these policies are not targeted by the solidarity movement. 4.
